TrackMom Diaries Day 1… We Are Off To Greensboro North Carolina

We Left LAX headed for Charlotte,NC then a quick 1 and a half  hour drive to Greensboro. As travel to Jo ‘s goes the flight was probably one of the best and on time with Delta Air we have experienced over the past 5 years. We ran into two of our team families. The Morrow’s and the Young family. Our team is new and we are very happy to have 7 athletes participate this year. The remaining families will follow tomorrow.

Gary Sr. Gary Jr Silva and Lil’ Robert

We boarded the plan on time and with out much problem and quickly got into position for sleep at least to Minneapolis

Just a little after 1 am time for some shut eye…..

After a plane change in Minneapolis, a car drive from Charlotte to Greensboro  We arrive at the hotel at 1:45 pm register and rest for a while look up with the help of Suri  to find out just how close  these important places like….The  Dollar Store, Costco, Walmart and Target are to  our hotel. Eureka! within a mile or two and with that news we  then we head to the Irwin Belk Stadium to pick up the team packet and get the lay of the land. Today Suri ended up scoring one out of two with directing us for a half an hour  in a circle  trying to find the track. Finally I had  Lauren put the actual address in the map finder and  sure enough Suri redeemed herself and we arrived  at the track.

A lot has changed since our last visit in 2009. A very nice  gentleman that was directing workers under the stadium happen to ask while I was waiting for for Henry where I was from. That lead to a short, very  pleasant conversation about the more recent 100 million dollar input of money into the school and all the changes and improvements.  I look forward to seeing the media box and more of the improved stadium in the coming days. Before we left the stadium after picking up the team packet and watching one of  Lauren’s friends  compete in the Pentathlon boy’s 13-14 high jump . He jumped well and was very surprised and happy to see a familiar friendly spectator face cheering him on.

We ran into a very nice family from Houston, Texas  that wanted to take a picture  with Lauren .  She was more than happy to take the pictures and they were nice enough to give me a copy to share with you. I also was able to met my first   medal winner of the week . It is always so wonderful to see the happy faces of the medal winners. I can’t help but smile with them celebrating there accomplishment  and all the hard work that went into the outcome on the biggest Age Group competition stage “The Junior Olympics”.
